Crowning, the Chicago trio whose membership includes Frail Body leader Lowell Shaffer, are a serious force in the mutually supportive screamo underground, and they’re always down to release a split with another band. Crowning have a bunch of splits to their name. The way they do the splits, bitch, their pants might rip. Two years after they dropped a serious one with Baltimore’s Eyelet, and now they’ve got a huge new one with a band from Japan.

Richmond metal-punks Private Hell have lately been talking about their plan to knock out a series of self-released flexis. The first of those EPs is called Wake Up Screaming, and it came out last Friday. The band already shared the towering opening track “Dead Inside,” and now you get to hear the other two joints, one of which is a Joy Division cover.

The New Jersey singer/rapper 070 Shake released her album You Can’t Kill Me, and she followed it with the solo single “Black Dress” and the Ken Carson collab “Natural Habitat.” Now, Shake has another album called Petrichor coming next month, and her newest single sounds very little like anything that she’s done before.

This Friday, Porridge Radio will share Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, the follow-up to 2022’s magnificent Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky. This new album is shaping up to be just as gorgeous and powerful, as per previous singles “Sick Of The Blues” and “A Hole In The Ground.” Today, the British indie rock band is back with the shattering “God Of Everything Else.”

Back in April, beloved Boston shoegazers Drop Nineteens played their first show in a whopping 30 years. This weekend, they’ll kick off a handful of tour dates for the fall, including an appearance at Austin’s stacked Levitation Festival in November, coinciding with the release of their first new album in three decades. They’re really making the most out of this reunion! Today, Drop Nineteens announced that they’ll be properly issuing their long lost album from 1991, aptly titled 1991. The lead single “Daymom” is out now.

Back in July, Fire Talk announced their signing of UK duo Lots Of Hands with the single “Rosie.” That song is going to be on Lots Of Hands’ upcoming album into a pretty room, and before it’s out in January, they’ve shared another new single today called “Game Of Zeroes.”

Next month, Father John Misty will release his new album Mahashmashana, which is hotly anticipated even though we’ve already heard more than half of its tracks. Some of those songs were released through unconventional means. “She Cleans Up,” which sounds a bit like the Velvet Underground doing boogie-rock, was already up on SoundCloud. But now the Mist has given the song a proper release, thus allowing you to put it on all your little playlists or whatever.

Last month, Greg Mendez announced his new EP First Time / Alone along with his signing to Dead Oceans. The evocative singer-songwriter released “First Time,” and now he’s sharing “Alone.”

A couple of months ago, Panda Bear released the Reset Mariachi EP with Sonic Boom. Today, the project of Animal Collective’s Noah Lennox is announcing a new album called Sinister Grift. The lead single “Defense” is out now, and it features Cindy Lee on guitar.

Southeast Asia has a hardcore scene that’s currently thriving, and its flagship band might be Bangkok’s Whispers. Whispers have long been known for their ability to make big crowds of kids go nuts, and they’ve started doing that internationally more and more often. Expect more of that to happen, since Whispers just announced a new EP on the big US hardcore label Flatspot Records that’ll feature a bunch of heavy hitters from across the hardcore world.

Last month, the Slaps announced their new album Mudglimmer and released the title track as well as “Compromised Dirt” featuring Merce Lemon and Lunar Vacation’s Maggie Geeslin. Today, the free jazz/post-rock crew is back with the adventurous “Fool.”

Flint, Michigan’s Greet Death have proven themselves to be masters of dark, tangled, psychologically fucked indie rock; they’re like an American Arab Strap. Greet Death dropped the great EP New Low in 2022, and they recently turned up on Infant Island’s “Kindling.” Now, there’s a new Greet Death song that seems to be a stand-alone single, at least for now.

Later this week, the LA-based indie singer-songwriter Jordana will release her new album Lively Premonition. We’ve posted the early tracks “We Get By,” “Like A Dog,” and “Anything For You.” Now, Jordana has shared one last advance single, a slinky tune called “Raver Girl.”

You didn’t think the Brat rollout was over, did you? Charli XCX has been dominating the headlines all year, and she’s going to keep this thing going for as long as she possibly can. Just last week, Charli released her massive all-star remix album Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat. And she still has more all-star remixes left to go! Today, Charli has gotten together with fellow party-girl god Kesha on a new version of “Spring breakers,” one of the bonus tracks that Charli originally released on the deluxe edition Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not.

Earlier this year, the Austrian ambient guitar master Christian Fennesz shared an instrumental track called “Sognati di Domani,” and he announced plans to release a new album called Mosaic in September. Well, September is over, and Mosaic hasn’t come out. But now, Fennesz has unveiled all the details of Mosaic, which is set to arrive later this year and which does not feature “Sognati di Domani.”

There’s a new supergroup in town. Meet the Silverlites, made up of R.E.M.’s Peter Buck, the Black Crowes’ Rich Robinson, Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees and Mad Season, and singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur who was first discovered by Peter Gabriel. Today, the band announced their debut album Silverlites and released the lead single “Don’t Go, Don’t Stay.”

Nat & Alex Wolff got their start on the Nickelodeon show The Naked Brothers Band, and they’ve come a long way since then. The duo has three albums under their belt and they’re currently on tour opening for Billie Eilish. On Friday (Oct. 11), they shared their new song “Soft Kissing Hour,” and it features the pop star on backing vocals.

The Serfs are a Cincinnati combo whose “deliberately nebulous” lineup overlaps somewhat with the Drin. Their 2023 album Half Eaten By Dogs was awesome, and so is the new single they dropped last month, which just hit Bandcamp today.

Si Dios Quiere come from the South Side of Chicago, and they make an elemental form of metallic hardcore with tons of swagger. They’ve got a bunch of EPs to their name, and now they’ve announced plans to release their full-length debut No Angels, which comes out in just two weeks. The all-out banger “Fool’s Gold,” formerly released as a standalone single, showed up in our hardcore column last month, and it is well worth your time. So is the LP’s title track, which just hit the internet today.

London grime star Skepta was supposed to release his new album Knife And Fork earlier this year, but it hasn’t come out yet, and we don’t know when it’s arriving. Thus far, Skepta has released the singles “Gas Me Up (Diligent)” and “Tony Montana,” and today he’s got a new one with Flo Milli, the Alabama rapper who’s got a ton of momentum right now.

Houston rap animals That Mexican OT and Maxo Kream make a perfect pair. Both of them are flashy, charismatic characters with serious technical style that’s rooted in old-school Southern bounce. When they get on a track together, you can hear the energy just crackle. Earlier this year, they teamed up on Maxo Kream’s single “Talkin In Screw.” Now, they’ve once again joined forces on “War Wounds,” a new That Mexican OT single that also features H-Town legend Lil Keke.

The members of the hugely popular South Korean girl group Blackpink are releasing solo music, and today we’ve got a big one from JENNIE, the member who starred in the Weeknd’s HBO show The Idol and who had to apologize for vaping indoors. Jennie’s new single “Mantra” is fully English-language, and it feels like her take on the messy, bratty pop that’s been such a potent force this year.

Earlier this year, EarthGang released the AI-inspired EP Robophobia. The Atlanta rap duo recently announced their new album Perfect Fantasy, and today they’re unveiling the first preview with the T-Pain collaboration “Love You More.”

Blue Smiley were an oft-underrated Philadelphia band whose two studio albums, 2015’s ok and 2016’s return, have made them a frequently-cited reference in regards to the shoegaze revival. But their run was cut short when the band’s primary songwriter Brian Nowell tragically died in 2017. Today, in honor of what would’ve been his 34th birthday, the surviving members of Blue Smiley have shared a song from their vault called “pond.”

Boston power-poppers American Hi-Fi have been active since 1998, and they’re probably still best-known for their 2001 hit “Flavor Of The Weak.” The band is still going, with their full original lineup intact, and they put out a covers EP in 2020. Until today, though, American Hi-Fi haven’t released any new music of their own since their 2014 album Blood & Lemonade. Today, they’re back with a new song.
